Easel Edge
How Easel Edge Palettes works
A free, interactive reference for studying palette structure, color mixtures, and value decisions at the easel.
Subtractive mixing
The engine uses spectral.js to model subtractive pigment mixing. It is designed to avoid treating paint as a simple screen-color average.
Tint and recipe checks
Color recipes can resolve through their ingredients, and tinting strength data is passed into the mixing model when it is available.
Value is a separate view
The Value toggle renders neutral equivalents of the palette colors, keeping the underlying palette data intact for recipe lookups.
Engine transparency
Validation is part of the product. The report shows the automated checks run against the palette data, including required fields, duplicate codes, and missing mix recipes.
Read the validation reportBuilt from practical palette study
The included palettes are presented as study references. Inspect a dollop for the displayed ingredient list and use the builder to create, remix, save, or share your own palette.
Easel Edge Palettes is free to use.
From the atelier
Easel Edge Palettes is built and maintained by Clinton Smith, a classical portrait painter working in oil in Lansing, Michigan. It is the free study companion in the Easel Edge family.
